Grant support for Love Ambleside and Festival of the Fells
You are reading this website thanks to a decision made by Lakes Parish Council members in May to award a £3,000 grant to Ambleside Together.
The group’s treasurer, Wendy Rainer, made an appeal to councillors for the grant, which would pay for the design and development of the Love Ambleside and Festival of the Fells website.
“Ambleside Together aims to showcase the town and surrounding area with the Love Ambleside website,” she said. “We’re hoping that it will help generate increased visitors numbers to Lake District which is so vital for the local economy in the wake of the December 2015 floods.”
Ambleside Together member Clive Hutchby, who is part of the organising committee of Festival of the Fells, told councillors the Love Ambleside website would not be trying to compete with the informative Ambleside Online site (www.amblesideonline.co.uk), but that it would be working alongside it. “The Love Ambleside site will have lots of direct links to sections in Ambleside Online,” he said.
Lakes Parish Council covers Ambleside, Rydal, Grasmere, Troutbeck and Great Langdale and is comprised of 16 councillors.
Meanwhile, grants from South Lakeland District Council have also been made to Ambleside Together, including a four-figure sum to promote September’s four-day Festival of the Fells, which is being sponsored by Lakeland Land Rover of Torver; part of this money will go towards an extensive radio advertising campaign on Lakeland Radio in the run-up to the festival.
“We are very grateful for the support given to us by South Lakeland,” said Ambleside Together chairman Andrew Hewitt. “Not only the grants, but for practical help and advice. And, naturally, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Lakes Parish Council for their generous donation.”
